Roland JV-880 (1992)
Multitimbral Synthesizer Module

 

ROLAND JV-80 rackmount version, rompler synthesizer, keeping same technical characteristics.

RACKMOUNT single rack unit. Main panel features a backlit 24 x 2 lines display, 12 buttons, a data encoder and finally a volume knob.


Rear panel terminal connectors:
- Midi interface
- main signal out
- AUX analog out (only dry, no fx)


Front panel terminal connectors:
- 1 slot card PCM SO-PCM
- 1 slot card DATA PN-JV80.

TECH main core IC HB/532 (15199810 at IC16) system manages up to 28 voices polyphony or PCM TONES; DAC is a Burr Brown PCM69AP. A basic JV-880 patch is composed by 4 tones (or PCM samples) with individual settings:

- keyzone assignment - pitch tuning - stereo panning position - delay start time - crossmodulation FXM with variable amount Hear XFM on square

 

WAVETABLE internal 4 Mb ROM contains 129 PCM samples at 16-bits resolution, mainly a wide selection of bread and butters for all kind of music and tastes.
The internal ROM can be expaned using either SO-PCM cards or SRJV cards.

The ROM table is basically organized into 3 categories: acoustic, basic waves and drums Hear ALL internal waves

EXPANSION the JV is expandable fitting 2 kind of expansions:
- PCM card inserted into the frontal slot (SO-PCM series 1/2 MB)
- SRJ-V board (usual size is 4 or 8 MB).

ENVELOPE each TONE features 3 EGs:
- EG1 AMP: segments + 3 times, 8 velocity curves + key follows option.
- EG2 FILTER: 4 segments + 4 times.
- EG3 PITCH: 4 segments + 4 times, Keyfollow + random Pitch ratio.

LFO up to 2 delayed low oscillators, 7 shapes with adjustable symmetry offset : triangle, sinewave, sawtooth, trapezoidal, random1 and random2 - sample-hold.
The LFOs destinations are: TVF filter, TVA amplitude and stereo panning.
Some extra modulation functions are note retrig and sync to LFO.

FILTER digital resonant TVF - Time Variant Filter - provides 2 modes:
- TVF lowpass
- TVF highpass

The TVF features also keyfollow function with +/- 200% harmonic content cutoff over octaves.

PERFORMANCE the JV engine is multimbric and manages up 7 parts (+1 drum) parts each with assignable parameters:

- Midi channel assign - keyboard zone assign - stereo panning - volume gain - effect amount - pitch tuning - variable tuning scale: equal, just, arabic - portamento time set + amount - analog feel function Hear two parts multitimbric (synth+bass) Hear analog feel range

EFFECT digital DSP features basically 2 kind of effects that can be edited with minor parameters:
- reverb: 8 presets 2 ROOM, 2 STAGE, 2 HALL and 2 DELAY Hear
- chorus: 3 presets of choruses/flanger with variable rate and depth Hear

 

MEMORY:
- RAM 64 patches
- RAM 16 performances
- RAM 1 rhythm set
- ROM 128 patches
- ROM 16 performances
- ROM 1 rhythm set.
TIP: RAM doubled using l Data card model Roland M 256 / M512.
