Kawai K5000 R (1997)

Rackmount expander version of the K5000S synthesizer: digital synthesizer mixing additive synthesis and PCM breed.

RACKMOUNT (weight: 3 Kg) 2 units.
The main panel features a 240 x 64 pixels display, 41 buttons, 2 knobs and a rotary data encoder.

VOICE core CPU Risc-32 manage 32 voices polyphony based on DAS DSP ADVANCED SYNTHESIS.

A basic k5000 patch is composed by 6 digital oscillators or so-called "elements" and each DAS element can be either a:
1- DSP additive wave
2- PCM sample wave

ADDITIVE ELEMENT DSP generates 128 digital sinewaves harmonic that can be summed following the Fourier principle. The sinewaves are split into 2 harmonic groups (each group counts for 1 element):
1) harmonic group1 : from 1 to 64
2) harmonic group2 : from 64 to 128

The relative harmonics levels can be set in 3 different ways:
1- DHL: step by step values entries
2- DHE: EG envelope
3- 6 macro harmonic groups templates: bright, odd, even, octave, 5th and whole-harmonics selection.

One of the most interesting features is the Morphing function which is able to record up to 4 harmonics snapshots with progressive interpolation values for a smooth motion.

PCM ELEMENT subtractive synthesis is a 16 bits ROM contains 123 PCM waveforms split into 2 category groups:
1- PCM acoustic instruments
2- PCM transient attack PCM (like Roland D-50)

ENVELOPE 5 EGs:
1- amplitude osc: 4 segments+ 2 levels
2- pitch osc: 4 segments+ 2 levels
3- standard filter: 4 segments+ 2 levels
4- formant filter: variable structure
5- harmonic: variable structure every harmonics has its own EG with possible loops scan between decay segments.

FILTER the DCF is multimode:
- highpass (both PCM+ ADD)
- lowpass (both PCM+ ADD)
- formant (only ADD) is a 128 bands resonant comb-model defined by 128 DFL steps, each step contains 2 values for both level and envelope. For quick edit it is possible to fill steps using the macro bands selections (5-10-15-20-ALL).

 

LFO 4 digital modulators (triangle, saw, random and square ) and 4 destinations:
1- oscillator pitch
2- amplitude
3- filter "standard"
4- filter formant

EFFECTS fully editable sections includes: reverb, delay, chorus, flanger, leslie, distortion, excister and overdrive.

MEMORY:
- 256 RAM patches
- RAM doubled if special memory expansion model ME-1 is fitted. Sounds and performances can be saved either to Midi Sysex dump or to internal 1.44 MB disk drive which file system is PC MS-Dos file system.

MIDI quite all parameters can be controlled by Midi Control Change.
Optional Kawai box Macro Control can be used to improve edit interface.

ARPEGGIATOR really complete with adjustable octave range, hold, random notes, gate velocity. The arpeggios are midi-ouput to other devices and they can be synched to external Midi clock tempo.
IMPORT function loads short Midi files into special slots for creative arpeggios edit.

K5000R RELATED MODELS:
