Technics SY-DP50
PCM digital drum percussion (1985)

 

A digital drum box from the famous producer of the immortal turntables SL-1200 / 1210.

NOTE: I sold this machine a long time ago and some info may be incomplete or approximative, so if you want to signal something wrong or send me some further demos, just drop me a line.

DRUM MACHINE Main panel features a simple segment display, 2 sliders and 54 buttons.

Rear panel terminal connections:
- Midi interface
- main out 2 impedances
- headphones
- pedalswitch input for start/stop
- 9 dins IN for custom pedal board SZ-FC1
- cartridge slot for SY-P3 or SY-P2 digital memory pack memory expansion.

 

 

SOUNDS there are 10 samples onboard coded at 8 / 12 bits (not sure) and 14 instruments.
It is no possible to edit samples in anyway, but some percussions responds to MELLOW mode which allows a lower velocity. Instrument list:

MEMORY the ROM contains 23 preset patterns:

ARRANGER the PRC Program Rhythm Composer allows to program some custom patterns using the apposite TAP button for recording, then up to 7 songs can be saved only to special RAM cartridge SY-P3 memory pack. Arranger functions are: solo, variations, clear, copy, triplet, accent, 2 FILL-IN modes, INTRO and variable time signature (including 2/4, 4/4, 3/4).
SYNC internal tempo range 60 to 300 BPM or special sync slave mode to external Midi clock.

 

 

MODIFICATION not much around but some circuit bent modifications (video demo in the DEMO section).
