NOVATION KS4 / KS5 (2003)

Synthesizer series with updated VA engine from previous module A-Station.
There are 2 synth versions with same characteristics:

KS4: 49 keys (7.5 Kg)
KS5: 61 keys (8.5 Kg) semi-weighted

KEYBOARD main panel features a 2 x 20 character backlit LCD, 29 knobs, 4 pot sliders, 49 buttons and 2 wheels for modulation and pitch bending.

VOICE the core DSP manages up to 16 voices polyphony.
A basic KS4/5 patch is composed by 3 detunable and crossmodulable oscillators in 4 octave heights.
The KS engine features 2 synthesis family generators :
1- analog modeling
2- wavetable PCM

ANALOG MODELING internal DSP creates 7 analog waveforms:
1- square
2- saw
3- pulse with variable width
4- triangle
5- sinewave
6- hypersaw with special "doublemode"
7- noises: 3 different colors

 

WAVETABLE PCM ROM contains 24 PCM waveforms organized into 2 families:
A- 9 cycled harmonics waves from electromechanical and electronic piano instruments such as Hammond organ, Rhodes, Clavinet and Wurlitzer.
B- 15 one-shot percussions

PERFORMANCE up to 4 parts available with variable functions:
- volume
- split zones
- pitch tuning
- indipendent Midi channels
- 2 polyphonic modes
- special monophonic mode glide portamento.
- oscillators unison

FILTER digital resonant filter with 2 or 4 poles slope and 4 modes:
1 lowpass
2- highpass
3- bandpass
4 special OVEDRIVE function saturates the filter
TIP : external sources can be filtered

 

ENVELOPES 2 EGs based on a 4-segments ADSR structure:
1- EG1 is hardwired to amplitude
2- EG2 is freely assignable to pulse width, cutoff, oscillator pitch or amplitude

LFO 2 delayed modulators (0 Hz to 1Khz range):
1- LFO1 modulates oscillators pitch
2- LFO2 modulates filter cutoff
Both modulators feature 6 different shapes with variable polarity offset: sine, triangle, saw, square, sample & hold and random.



EFFECTS digital DSP manages 7 different effects: reverb, distorion, chorus / phaser, panning, 16-bands vocoder and EQ

 

MEMORY
- ROM 200 programs + 50 performances +100 drum sounds
- RAM 200 programs + 100 drum programs+ 50 performances
Sound can be saved to Midi exclusives dump.

ARPEGGIATOR 1 arp per sound and up to 4 in performance mode: the broken chords system can be set at different gate velocity and octaves range with various pattern styles like up-down, random and chord mode. Last but not least, the arpeggiator can be programmed step by step in 32 programmable available slots.



SYNC the arpeggiators and LFO function can be slaves to external Midi clock tempo at variable
dividers rates like 8th, bars or dotted.
