Korg MS-02 Cv/trigger interface (197x)

 

Analog synth interface converts synthesizers tension controls between Hz/V and 1 V/Oct and vice versa.

The Korg Interface MS-02 is designed for the purpose of connecting Korg MS-Series synthesizers with other synthesizers available throughout the world. This sophisticated signal processor greatly enhances the performance possibilities of the MS-Series.

CV FOREWORD before the Midi system, analog ynthesizers and other musical gears could played be externally played or sequenced by an analog control system: the Control Voltage with a trigger.
The CV/Gate combo is basically composed by 2 tensions that controls

- oscillator pitch - the envelope trigger

CV STANDARDS there are 2 main CV standards with different scale values:

- 1 V / Oct. linear tension and is used by Roland, Sequential Circuits (e.g Sequential Pro1) , Arp (e.g Arp Odyssey), Oberheim and Moog (e.g Minimoog) - Hz/ V logarithmic and used by most of Korg machines (e.g MS-20) and Yamaha (e.g cs-15)

CONVERTER the Hz / V system is technically more precise but defintively less common than 1V/Oct, so for for linking different systems a converter is needed - the MS-02 just does that job.

 

FUNCTIONS the Ms02 handles 4 main functions:

- LOG AMP changes Hz/Volt tension to 1V/Oct - you have to plug the signal to IN, calibrate the Lowest pitch with FREQUENCY and higher with WIDTH so both scales are matched. - ANTILOG AMP exactly the LOG AMP contrary. - ADDING AMP 2 channels +/-5 V can be added to incoming tensions. - TRIGGER PROCESSOR 2 inverts the signal polarity that trigger the EG. If the controlled synth plays at note release, then use this polarity inverter.
